Crista Flanagan Strips off for Playboy

(News Today) - Hold The Phone! Actress Crista Flanagan, known for her role as switchboard operator Lois Sadler in Mad Men, is baring all in Playboy. The 34-year old paid tribute to the Sixties-inspired show for the shoot, recreating two covers from past issues that had been published 40-plus years ago - the November 1960 cover with Toni Lacey and the 1969 cover with Sharon Kristie.

'I got there and they had a little area for my wardrobe, and I felt okay when I walked in and saw all the beautiful shoes,' Crista said to Playboy when asked if she had been nervous at the prospect of taking her clothes off.

'It scared me,' she admitted.

'[But] I thought it was exciting that something still scared me. I was really nervous about it, and then I thought the only thing that would be embarrassing would be if I hated my body.'

Along with the eight page spread is an essay titled 'It’s a Mad World,' which was written in the Sixties by provocative advertising man George Lois.

Accompanying the article are advertisements that were featured in Playboy issues throughout that decade. Flanagan has previously portrayed quirky roles on US sketch comedy series MADtv and the hit Larry David show Curb Your Enthusiasm.

She admits that she relished the opportunity to do the photo shoot because she never gets to play pretty on screen.

'I'm a character actress. The parts I play, I'm usually a crazy heroin addict or a lunch lady,' she told the New York Daily News.

'Nobody's ever asked me to take off my clothes, or even kiss somebody.'

The August Playboy is out in the States now, with season four of Mad Men starting on July 25th in the U.S..
