Jakarta (News Today) - National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri said investigations into the case of tax corruption conspiracy in the police force were still underway.
"The investigations of the case that involves former tax official Gayus Tambunan are still in progress but almost done," he said after speaking at a seminar at the Police Academy (PTIK) here on Wednesday.
He said the police continued investigating the case and "we hope the rule of law will be the commander in dealing with it." National Police spokesman Inspector General Edward Aritonang earlier said the Rp28 billion that belonged to Gayus was connected with a tax trial case that Gayus had helped to settle.
"Information about where the money come from has so far still come from Gayus and therefore more evidence is still needed to support his confession," he said.
He said the police initially would block Rp25 billion in his accounts but during the process it was found the money in his accounts amounted to Rp28 billion. He stated the money came from 149 companies that had tax disputes handled by Gayus.
According to him, the police had only questioned four of the companies. "The result is now still being studied," he said. The four companies are known by their initials as SAT, ICT, EC and T.
Aritonang denied information in several media that the police had actually questioned some other than the four companies that had links with Gayus.
Gayus was once acquitted by the Tangerang court in a money laundering case early in 2010.
The police had reinvestigated the case on allegations of case arrangement by police and court officials. And in connection with that Gayus has been named suspect in a corruption and money laundering case.
The case has also involved other figures such as lawyer Haposan Hutagalung, police advisor Sjahril Djohan, Alif Kuncoro, Lambertun, police commissioner Arafat, adjunct police comissioner Sri Sumarni, judge Muhtadi Asnun. Two public prosecutors dealing with the case have also been named suspects.
